Disciplinary Identity and Culture Value of Chinese Ancient Translation Theory

Abstract: Chinese ancient translation theory has a time-honored history. As a discipline, it has already existed in the Ming dynasty. Explored from Chinese traditional philosophy, it can be found that Chinese ancient translation theory reflects a different culture value system from western translation theory's:in methodology, it is a combination of Laozi's Taoism and Confucian Naming theory; in practice, it emphasizes innovation and re-constriction of the original text; in theoretical form, it inherits the narrative features of Tao Te Ching, adopting the method of "only description, no definition" in illustrating theory. Therefore, for Chinese ancient translation theory, we should discover its existence, value and development, absorbing inspirations from it and applying it to the theoretical and practical constriction of translation.
