A Study on the Image Translation of Huaihe Folk Culture

Under the guidance of the strategy of “Chinese culture going global”, Henan province launched the project of “Translating Henan” at the beginning of 2018 to tell both Chinese and Henan stories with Henan cultural symbols, including the volume “Huaihe Culture”. This volume mainly tells the rich history, culture and traditional customs, etc. of the Huaihe River Basin. Between the lines, there are a large number of special names, terms and allusions with local cultural characteristics carrying profound cultural implications. The whole volume is mostly translated under the guidance of Nord’s “Function + Loyalty”theory, and the typical cases from the sections of unique folk customs and music articles are selected as examples so as to analyze the Huaihe River cultural images contained from the three levels of terms, sentences and discourse, and explore the English translation of Huaihe River cultural images, hoping to pave the way for further in-depth research.
